A principal sponsor of the London 2012 Paralympics is - ATOS. Who? It's the private company of choice, of the British government, with the remit of assessing disablement and disability benefit claimants, for their entitlement to their only form of income. ATOS is paid by results, a bounty on everyone they can "prove able to work", whatever any of those words mean. In short, to get disabled people off sick benefit, so they have save the government some money, and get paid by the government for every one they achieve. There are horrendous reports of the total unsuitabilty of "assessors", most of whom have no medical or clinical traning. One report was that the consultation was cut short, because the "assessor" was a school dinner-lady in danger of being late for her shift. They also include people who have never seen the claims forms before, who pass as "fit" someone who can crawl across the floor on their elbows, people who are incontinent, mentally unstable and have difficulty breathing, but are able to pick up a telephone. Whether those people are likely to find work at a time of mass unemployment doesn't come into it, only if they are "too fit" to claim disability benefit.
