VivaPalestina!

A lifeline for Gaza

"Three weeks of barbaric Israeli bombardment has laid waste to Gaza. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have had their lives reduced to rubble. They have lost everything - their loved ones, their homes, their hospitals, their schools, their fields, their university, and any semblance of normal family life.

Now is the time to deliver the help they so desperately need – medical supplies, food, clothing, toiletries, building materials, tools, clean water, furniture, computers, toys, schoolbooks – in fact anything and everything that we take for granted, the people of Gaza are crying out for to rebuild their lives.

That is why I have gathered people together from cities, towns and organisations across the UK to form a convoy of material aid – a lifeline for Gaza, headed by a fire-engine, packed full with donated firefighting equipment. You can fundraise and collect in your locality, fill a truck - fill ten trucks - and join us en route

We will all assemble in London on Saturday 14 February, on Valentine's Day, to set off to Palestine, journeying through Paris, Madrid and Casablanca, then across north Africa to Rafah. We will travel with speed, with hope and with love.

You can help to send a Valentine to Palestine in so many ways. You can donate a truck. You can collect supplies. You can offer your services as a driver, a mechanic, a translator, or volunteer in our London office. You send us money. You can talk to friends, families and colleagues, to publicise this appeal and garner even more support.

The people of Gaza cannot wait while governments wrangle and apportion blame. They need action, not platitudes - they need a lifeline now. Support the convoy. Viva Palestina!"

George Galloway

The BBC has pulled the plug on a television appeal by 13 charities for Gaza. The ban on the aid advert by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) comes as United Nations Secretary General Ban ki-moon visited Gaza to witness the appalling devastation. He said of the UN compound destroyed by Israel:

"I am just appalled. I am not able to describe how I am feeling. This was an outrageous and totally unacceptable attack against the United Nations."

George Galloway, who is organising an aid convoy to Gaza leaving London on St Valentine’s Day, 14 February, says:

“This is a sickening decision by the BBC. When it said no, all the other broadcasters pulled the plug on the ad as well, according to some obscure ‘convention’. The BBC has already drawn international opprobrium for its unremittingly pro-Israel bias during the assault on Gaza. Now it is stymieing relief efforts. Three immediate responses are called for:

“The BBC must be subjected to a wave of protest over this inhuman decision. If public opinion mobilised over lewd broadcasting by Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand then surely it can over this far graver failure to serve the public.

“The other broadcasters, who have no problem with the appeal, should be persuaded to transmit it anyway. Conventions are not binding with the force of law. If the BBC has in effect broken it, why should others feel bound?

“Everyone who supports the Palestinians people in Gaza should step up their aid, activities and political solidarity. The convoy I am helping to organise to Gaza, leaving London on 14 February, St Valentine’s Day, takes on even more importance. Support it. Collect for it. Send a vehicle laden with aid on it. The convoy is designed to break both the material and the media blockade on Gaza.

“Let’s answer the BBC’s disgraceful action – taken at public expense, thanks to our licence fees – with a massive convoy of material aid and political support for the Palestinians.”

Send A Valentine To Palestine

The response to the convoy has been overwhelming, with people from Scotland to Devon offering their services, clothes, medicines and money.

We now have 20 vehicles including a fire engine, ambulance and a boat!

Below are the co-ordinators we have in place so far around the country. If you do not see your area and would like to volunteer to collect clothes and co-ordinate matters etc please contact Ghada on 07958 450 867.

Please if you are collecting clothes they need to be either brand new or in very good condition. We have also been told that the people in Gaza need warm blankets.

We need your help now to make sure that this convoy is the biggest one to reach Gaza in history.

Viva Palestina! http://www.vivapalestina.org - Send a Valentine to Palestine!

A humanitarian crisis is gripping Gaza. Not only will the BBC not show the full extent of the suffering it, and Rupert Murdoch’s Sky, are refusing to allow aid agencies to appeal for funds.

On 14th February, St Valentine’s Day, George Galloway MP will be leading a convoy from London to Gaza bringing fire engines, ambulances and tons of aid.

We also want to send thousands of Valentine’s messages from the people of Britain to the people of Palestine.

So please

1) Buy an extra Valentine’s card

2) Include a donation - cheques and postal orders payable to “Lifeline for Gaza”

3) Send it to Viva Palestina! c/o Flat 6, 1-2 Bowling Green Place, London SE1 1YL
