Graveyard of empires could claim more careers

It is Gordon Brown feeling the heat over Afghanistan now, but the Tories too must decide if this is a war worth fighting
Rachel Sylvester

Ever since Alexander the Great was wounded by a Pashtun archer’s arrow in 327BC Afghanistan has been known as the graveyard of empires. It is now becoming increasingly clear that it could be the cemetery of political careers as well — although that is perhaps an inappropriate metaphor given that more than 230 real bodies have so far been buried during the current campaign.

Somalia, Afghanistan shamed in graft league table

Lawless Somalia and war-torn Afghanistan topped a blacklist on Tuesday of the world's most corrupt countries drawn up by the anti-graft watchdog Transparency International.

TI's annual corruption index showed how countries devastated by conflict have become overrun by graft with Iraq, Sudan and Myanmar accounting for the three other states in the bottom five of the chart.

Spot the pattern :
Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan all have western inspired insurrections / invasions. I don't believe they were in the top 5 list before the insurrections / invasions.

As for Myanmar (aka Burma) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma maybe they aren't Israel's enemy, so the west doesn't care.

Future plans already laid...All sounds very ominous as to where we are all going or should that read been going for a long time.

The troops are needed back in Britain. E.g. in Cumbria, defending the immediate borders of Britain etc.

"Civil war spreads across north west Pakistan"

"The Pakistani military offensive in South Waziristan against Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP)—the Pakistani Taliban—has escalated into a civil war throughout the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) and North West Frontier Province (NWFP). Islamists and tribal militants now consider themselves in a fight to the death with the pro-US government of President Ali Asif al-Zardari, which has bowed to Washington’s demands to deploy overwhelming force to stop the predominantly ethnic Pashtun regions being used to support the Taliban resistance over the border in Afghanistan."...
